Sennybridge Training Area

Sennybridge Training Area is a military facility in Powys that spans a high plateau featuring small ponds, peat bogs, and deep river valleys. The landscape shows a varied terrain with different ground conditions across the open moorland.

The War Office purchased this land in 1939 and transformed it into one of the three largest military training grounds in the country. The remote high ground proved suitable for military exercises and operations.

The land shows traces of settlements from prehistoric and medieval times, revealing how long people have lived and farmed here. Walking through the area, you can still notice these older marks in the landscape today.

When military activities are happening, red flags during the day and red lights at night signal that access is restricted in those areas. It is important to watch for warning signs and respect the marked boundaries around the site.

The Epynt Way is a marked walking route that circles the training area, allowing visitors to explore the landscape. This path lets people experience the surroundings while keeping clear of active military operations.
