Shane's Castle ruins

Shane's Castle is a castle ruin located on the northeastern shore of Lough Neagh near Antrim. The site contains extensive grounds with farmland, woodland, and remaining stone structures from the original building.

The castle was built in 1345 as Edenduffcarrick by the Clandeboy O'Neill dynasty. It received its current name from Shane McBrian McPhelim O'Neill, who ruled the local territory.

The ruins served as a filming location for scenes in the television series Game of Thrones. Visitors can still identify the spots where these scenes were shot today.

The grounds are currently operational with various areas open to visitors. Those wishing to explore the ruins should check access conditions in advance, as the estate is also used for private events and functions.

The property contains a historic conservatory with century-old camellia plants that are still maintained today. The estate also generates electricity using an innovative Archimedes Screw Type turbine system.
