St. Mary's Church, Brading

St. Mary's Church in Brading is a stone building set on a hilltop with a large graveyard containing many historical graves and wild flowers throughout the grounds. The structure features a distinctive tower supported by four piers and underwent architectural changes during the medieval period.

The building was founded around the year 1200 and holds Grade I listed status. It underwent significant architectural changes during the 14th and 15th centuries that shaped its present appearance.

The Oglander Chapel holds carved wooden effigies of knights and has served as a burial place for the Oglander family across many generations. Visitors can observe the craftsmanship that went into creating these figures.

The site is accessible on foot via paved pathways and offers both shaded and sunny areas to explore. The best time to visit is during clear weather when the details of gravestones and architectural features are clearly visible.

The building holds two baptismal fonts from different periods - one from the 13th century and another from the 15th century. These two fonts show how religious practices and artistic style evolved across the centuries.
