Llangollen Railway, Heritage railway in Denbighshire, Wales.
Llangollen Railway is a rail line in Denbighshire that runs about 10 miles through the Dee Valley between two towns. The route follows the river course and crosses gentle hills with woodland and pasture.
Service began in 1862 as part of a longer connection across North Wales. After closure in 1965, volunteers reopened the line and restored it in stages from the 1970s onward.
The line runs past stone bridges and meadows where conductors still walk through carriages in period uniform. Steam whistles and the squeal of brakes recreate what travel felt like a century ago.
The journey lasts about an hour and offers views of river and hills on both sides. The train moves slowly enough to watch the landscape before arriving at the end station.
Four signal boxes along the route still operate with mechanical levers and wires that move switches and signals by hand. On some days visitors can watch staff guide trains safely through the signals.
