St Mary's Church, Pentraeth

St Mary's Church, Pentraeth, Medieval parish church in Pentraeth, Wales.

St Mary's Church is a stone building with a slate roof and a south chapel located in the village center. The walls contain original medieval masonry across three sides, representing typical parish church architecture of the medieval period.

The site was first recorded as a church dedicated to Saint Mary in 1254, replacing an earlier structure devoted to Saint Geraint. This change in dedication reflects shifts in local religious practice during the medieval period.

The church is closely tied to the neighboring Plas Gwyn estate, whose residents are remembered through memorial stones embedded in its walls. These markers reveal how the local community and the manor house family were intertwined over centuries.

The building sits at the intersection of the A5025 and B5109 roads in central Pentraeth, making it straightforward to locate. Regular services take place on Sunday mornings, so visiting times may be limited when services are underway.

The church porch contains a water basin carved from a piece of a 12th-century baptismal font. This repurposing of an ancient religious object demonstrates how medieval artifacts were reused over the centuries.
