Dyfi Biosphere, Biosphere reserve in Ceredigion, Wales.
Dyfi Biosphere is a nature reserve in Wales containing wetlands, peat bogs, and river habitats that together form a complex landscape. The area consists of different zones: waterlogged peat, reed beds, and open water create a layered natural environment.
The area formed thousands of years ago when rising sea levels transformed forested land into wetland. Over time, peat layers accumulated and created the valuable natural heritage that exists today.
The name comes from a Welsh goddess, and the reserve holds deep significance for nature conservation efforts in Wales. You can see how local projects work to protect these wetland habitats and engage communities in preservation work.
The best way to explore the area is a circular boardwalk that starts from the parking area and provides dry passage over the wetland. Keep in mind that the ground is very wet in many places and certain areas are not open to visitors.
The site hosts carnivorous plants and rare moth species found nowhere else in such concentration. These specialized species thrive only in the wet, acidic conditions here, making it a living laboratory for nature.
