Thoresby College

Thomas Thoresby, a wealthy merchant and three-time mayor of King's Lynn, founded this building in 1508 as a residence for thirteen priests of Trinity Guild. The project demonstrates the importance of merchant patronage in medieval urban communities.

The building displays elements from its Tudor period, particularly in the decorative brickwork and Dutch gable facing the street. These details show how prosperous merchants shaped the local architectural style during that era.

The west wing contains two halls used for public events, while other sections house offices and residential apartments. Some areas are private, so visitors should check access routes before arrival.

The building's great door features intricate carved panels demonstrating the advanced woodworking techniques of sixteenth-century English craftsmen. This level of craftsmanship is visible in many details throughout the structure.
