Thornbridge Hall, Grade II listed country house and gardens in Great Longstone, England.
Thornbridge Hall is a Grade II listed country estate in Great Longstone with gardens and parkland covering 104 acres. The property includes 14 acres of formal gardens featuring Italian garden sections with hedges and water features, while the remainder consists of open parkland and woodland areas.
The estate took its current form in 1896 when George Marples purchased it and undertook extensive renovations. These changes laid the foundation for the formal gardens that continued to develop over the following decades.
The Italian Gardens display hedges, statues, and fountains that were relocated from other country estates during the 1930s. Walking through these spaces shows a taste for classical European garden design that visitors can still experience today.
The gardens are open to visitors on multiple days each week during the summer months. The grounds feature a cafe for refreshments and a shop selling local products, making a full visit comfortable.
The garden was designed so carefully that a thousand different shades of green can be seen from a window of the main bedroom. This reveals the attention to detail the original garden designers had when selecting and arranging plants.
