Thornton Manor, Country house in Thornton Hough, England
Thornton Manor is a three-story stone house with slate roofs and large bay windows in Elizabethan style. The building has irregular shapes that developed as it was expanded and modified over several decades.
The estate was purchased in 1893 by William Lever, who added a music room and new stables. These changes left a lasting mark on how the building looked in the following period.
The manor shows how different building styles merged together over many generations. Visitors can see this layering in the varied exterior details and room layouts that came from different eras of construction.
The manor now operates as an event venue and offers various types of accommodation in cottages, apartments, and other buildings on the grounds. The large estate with its green spaces allows visitors to spend time outdoors.
The grounds contain a network of tree-lined avenues created between 1912 and 1914 under landscape architect Thomas Mawson's direction. These pathways stretch for several kilometers and form a distinctive feature of the park layout.
