Itton Court, Grade II* listed medieval building in Devauden, Wales
Itton Court is a house with limestone walls and a medieval entrance tower in Devauden, Wales, built in multiple sections from different periods. Welsh slate roofs cover the entire complex structure and define its overall appearance.
The building began as a medieval fortification linked to Chepstow Castle nearby. Around 1710 a large wing in Queen Anne style was added, which enlarged the property considerably.
The walls reveal details from different centuries, from medieval stonework to Victorian additions, each visible in how the building was constructed over time. Different wings show changing tastes through their materials and window styles.
The building sits on a slope and is best seen from the road, with access through a private driveway. You should arrange permission in advance since it remains a private home.
Architect Guy Dawber redesigned the interior between 1890 and 1910, creating a billiard room and combining three rooms into a long gallery. These alterations show how one designer fundamentally changed how the house was divided inside.
