The theatre opened in 1998 to replace the Victorian Pavilion Theatre, which had been partially destroyed by fire during the 1980s.
The venue presents a program of musical theatre, tribute performances, local productions, and touring shows throughout the calendar year.

The North Devon Theatres Trust operated the venue until 2017, when Selladoor Worldwide took over management through a ten-year contract.
