Lion Salt Works, Industry museum and saltworks in Marston, England.

Lion Salt Works is a preserved saltworks in Marston with buildings, salt pans, and heating houses from the 1800s. The site still displays the equipment that was used to produce salt through traditional methods.

The saltworks was founded in 1894 and operated salt production using craft techniques until 1986. After it closed, the site was transformed into a museum to preserve this industrial history.

The site tells the story of salt workers who shaped life in this region across many generations. The buildings and equipment show how people carried out this demanding craft day after day.

The location is easy to access and well signposted for visitors who want to spend time exploring. Comfortable shoes are a good idea since you will be walking around the grounds quite a bit.

A large share of the salt made here had a specific destination across the ocean. West African customers preferred the light, flaky variety produced at this works, which became an important supplier to that distant market.
