Mab's Cross, Medieval stone cross in Wigan, England
The stone cross consists of a gritstone plinth with an attached stump mounted on a square base along Standishgate street.
First documented in 1277, the cross marked one of four points on the medieval route connecting the towns of Wigan and Chorley.
The monument bears the name of Lady Mabel Bradshaigh, who established two religious chapels in Wigan and Blackrod during the 14th century.
Visitors find the cross near its 1921 relocated position across from the Mab's Cross Hotel during a road expansion project.
The structure incorporates original medieval construction elements, including visible leaded boreholes designed for steel clamp attachments.
