HOME, Arts centre in Manchester, United Kingdom.
HOME is a contemporary arts center in Manchester housed in a five-story building that brings together theaters, cinemas, and exhibition spaces under one roof. Inside are two theater spaces, five cinema screens, and about 500 square meters of gallery space for showing current artwork.
The building opened in 2015 by merging two established arts organizations: the Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre, which had been operating since 1952. This combination brought together decades of theater tradition and exhibition experience into a single modern institution.
The center hosts work by artists from around the world, creating a place where dancers, filmmakers, and painters work side by side. Visitors can see how different artistic practices happen in the same building and influence each other.
The center sits near Manchester Oxford Road station, making it easy to reach by public transport. Visitors should arrive early to have time to explore the different levels and spaces throughout the building.
The building was designed by Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo with open studios where artists can work and display their creations while visitors are present. This design lets guests watch the creative process happening in real time, not just see the finished results.
