Lancing College Chapel

Lancing College Chapel is a Gothic Revival structure built from sandstone that rises approximately 90 feet, featuring a broad interior with high windows along the walls. The building contains multiple organs and can accommodate hundreds of people in its nave during services and events.

The foundation stone was laid in 1868, with initial worship beginning in 1875 despite the building remaining incomplete. Full consecration took place in 1911, marking the end of a construction process spanning more than 40 years.

Multiple organs within the chapel, including mechanical and digital instruments, fill the space during regular concerts and services that shape the community's spiritual calendar. These instruments draw music enthusiasts who experience the building through sound as much as sight.

The chapel is open to visitors on most days, though hours may vary depending on the season and ongoing events or services taking place. It is worth checking ahead to confirm access, especially if special ceremonies or private functions are scheduled.

The western entrance received its final addition in 2021 when a three-arched porch was completed, bringing closure to more than 150 years of ongoing construction. This late completion represents a remarkable finale to a project that evolved across generations.
