Sandleford Priory, 18th century priory and school building in Greenham, England

Sandleford Priory is an 18th-century country house featuring Gothic windows and multiple wings located in Greenham. The building stands within spacious gardens spanning about 54 acres that display classical landscaping principles and design.

The current building was constructed between 1780 and 1786, incorporating elements from an original 12th-century Augustine monastery. This transformation shifted the site from religious use to a private residence.

This estate served as a gathering place for writers and thinkers during the 1700s, who came to exchange ideas. You can sense this intellectual history today when walking through the rooms and gardens where such conversations once took place.

The site now operates as a school building and is not always open to casual visitors. Check in advance about whether tours or special visiting days are available.

The former monastery chapel was converted into the school library while retaining its medieval architectural features. This adaptation shows how the building has taken on new functions across the centuries.
