Worthy Park House

Worthy Park House is a Grade II* listed mansion in Itchen Valley featuring a five-bay central block with two-storey construction. The yellow brick walls are decorated with Portland stone elements, and the entrance is framed by classical columns that give the building its formal character.

The original structure was built in 1722 by William Evelyn, but underwent a major redesign in the 1820s when architect Sir Robert Smirke added a new Georgian section. This expansion blended the original building with early 19th-century architectural principles.

The house displays classical Georgian elements that reflect how wealthy families expressed their taste and status through architecture. The ornamental details and formal design show the values of the period when it was built.

The building is located near Winchester along the B3047 road and now functions as Prince's Mead School following a conversion in 1999. Access to the property may be restricted since it serves as an active school facility.

The garden side of the house features two seated stone lion sculptures positioned at the ends of the steps, creating a classical formal entrance. These guardian figures are characteristic of grand estates from this period.
