Penegal is a mountain summit in the Nonsberg group near Kaltern in South Tyrol, standing at 1,737 meters (5,702 feet). The peak sits within the Alpine landscape and features open slopes with panoramic vantage points.
The mountain has served as an important geographical landmark in the Nonsberg range for generations of local travelers and shepherds. Its position within the region made it a natural reference point for navigation across the Alpine valleys.
The mountain forms an integral part of the Sentiero alpinistico attrezzato delle Cime trail system, connecting eight distinct summits in the region.
Multiple hiking trails approach the summit from the surrounding valleys, and proper footwear and fitness help with the climb. Good weather ensures visibility and makes the ascent more manageable, so checking conditions before setting out is wise.
From the summit, visitors observe three distinct geographical regions: the Überetsch plateau, Unterland valley, and sections of the Dolomites. This expansive vista is one of the most rewarding aspects of reaching this peak.
