House of the Vettii, Ancient Roman domus in Pompeii, Italy
The House of the Vettii features intricate frescoes, marble sculptures, and two peristyle gardens with decorative fountains and mythological statues throughout its rooms.
Excavated between 1894 and 1895, this residence belonged to two freed slaves, Aulus Vettius Restitutus and Aulus Vettius Conviva, who accumulated wealth through wine trade.
The walls display numerous frescoes depicting mythological scenes, including Cupids performing daily activities and trades, reflecting Roman social and economic life.
After twenty years of extensive restoration work completed in 2023, visitors can now explore the preserved rooms, gardens, and artwork of this significant Roman dwelling.
Two strongboxes prominently displayed in the atrium demonstrated the owners' wealth, while a painting of Priapus at the entrance symbolized prosperity and protection.
