Assumption of Mary

The Parish Church of the Assumption in Schlanders is a Gothic church featuring a bell tower that rises approximately 90 meters above the town. The tower's height makes it one of the most prominent structures in the Tyrol region and is visible from many points in the valley.

A devastating fire destroyed the church in 1499, but reconstruction began immediately and the building received its consecration in 1505. This event marked the start of centuries of continued use and periodic architectural modifications.

The interior and exterior reveal layers of different architectural styles that developed over centuries, from late Gothic to Art Nouveau details from the early 1900s. Walking through shows how the building adapted and changed with the times.

The church is located in the center of Schlanders and is easy to reach on foot, with parking available nearby and beneath the building. Inside spaces are open to visitors during regular hours, and the best times to visit are outside of service times when you can explore undisturbed.

The building underwent major renovation around 1900 when Art Nouveau details were added to its Gothic framework. This modernization blended the original medieval character with early 20th-century design trends that are still noticeable today.
