St. Michael, Gothic parish church in Brixen, Italy
St. Michael is a three-nave hall church with Gothic architectural features and a white tower at its northeastern corner. The interior was reshaped with Baroque elements during the 18th century.
The building was constructed in 1503 and incorporated remains of a Romanesque church from 1038. The structure was altered and adapted several times over the centuries.
The ceiling frescoes depict archangels including Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, while the main altar shows Michael battling Lucifer. These images shape the religious character of the interior.
The church is easily accessible and typically open to visitors outside of services. It is wise to check opening times before your visit to ensure you can see the interior.
A wooden sculpture on the left side shows Simon of Cyrene carrying the cross. This work is among the few surviving examples of Gothic interior decoration on this site.
