CastelBrando

CastelBrando is a fortress perched on a limestone ridge near Cison di Valmarino with thick walls running across multiple levels and courtyards. The structure combines medieval fortifications with later residential wings that wrap around the central hill.

The fortress began as a Roman military outpost before being transformed into a noble residence during the 13th century. Over subsequent centuries it was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded while remaining a key stronghold in the region.

For centuries, this fortress served as the seat of local authority where nobles governed the surrounding valleys and villages. Walking through its rooms today gives a sense of how power and family life were organized in a mountain stronghold.

A funicular railway connects the village below to the castle perched above, making the ascent straightforward and avoiding a steep climb. The ride provides views across Prosecco vineyards and the surrounding valleys during the journey.

Inside the ancient fortress sits a modern wellness spa that blends contemporary facilities within the original stone walls. This mix of past and present creates an unusual place to relax while surrounded by centuries of history.
