Riserva Naturale Regionale Adelasia, Regional nature reserve in Cairo Montenotte, Italy.
Riserva Naturale Regionale Adelasia is a protected territory in Liguria covering extensive beech woodlands and Mediterranean plant life. The reserve features karst cave systems and natural water sources distributed throughout the landscape.
The land witnessed the Battle of Montenotte in 1796, when French forces engaged Piedmont-Austrian troops in a pivotal military clash. This confrontation shaped the region's political trajectory significantly.
The name comes from Princess Adelasia, daughter of Emperor Otto I, who according to local legend sought refuge here with her husband Aleramo. Visitors walking through the reserve can still see how this story remains woven into the place names and local memory.
Entry to the reserve is through the Cascina Miera visitor center, where marked trails begin and lead into different sections of the territory. Wear sturdy footwear as paths wind through woodland and uneven ground.
Old military trenches survive at Bric Tesoro, remnants of regional conflicts from the late 1700s that visitors can still explore today. These preserved fortifications offer direct connections to the area's military past.
