Riserva regionale Lago Laudemio

Riserva regionale Lago Laudemio is a protected nature reserve centered on a glacial lake at about 1,525 meters elevation within the Sirino-Papa mountain range of the Lucanian Apennines. The site features marked trails, information panels, wooden railings, and a mountain shelter for visitors.

The reserve received official protected status in 1985 through a regional decree aimed at preserving the natural landscape. This designation reflected growing recognition of the ecological importance of this high-altitude area.

The area bears traces of early human settlements and contains fossils of ancient animals within its grounds. These finds reveal a landscape that has supported life for thousands of years.

The grounds are best explored on foot using the marked trails, and visitors should account for the high elevation when planning their time. The Rifugio Italia provides a good base for rest and orientation during your visit.

This lake holds the distinction of being the southernmost glacial lake in Italy and sits within a high valley surrounded by beech and alder forests. This unusual combination of southern location and alpine woodland creates a botanically noteworthy environment.
