Monte Alpi

Monte Alpi is a 1900-meter peak in the Pollino range with two distinct summits called Pizzo Falcone and Santa Croce. The mountain features steep rocky slopes with varied geological formations visible on its exposed faces.

The mountain served as a major passage for ancient trade routes connecting settlements across Basilicata. Worn paths crossing its slopes bear witness to centuries of human movement through this region.

Local communities have long gathered medicinal and culinary plants from the mountainside, a practice that remains part of daily life in neighboring villages. The herb harvest follows seasonal rhythms that connect residents to the mountain's natural cycles.

Hiking routes to the summit begin from nearby villages and require sturdy footwear and proper mountain equipment for the full journey. The climb is steep with exposed sections, so physical fitness and preparation are important.

The mountain contains rare mineral deposits including antigorite and chlorite that catch the eye of geology enthusiasts. These formations create distinctive color patterns on the exposed rock faces.
