Rocca Aldobrandesca, Medieval fortress in Scarlino, Italy.

The castle features three towers of different shapes, including one round, one triangular, and one quadrangular, within walls forming a pentagon layout.

The Aldobrandeschi family constructed the fortress at the end of the 10th century, with first documentation appearing in 973 through Lamberto degli Aldobrandeschi.

Archaeological excavations between 1979 and 1983 revealed settlement traces from the Bronze Age, including remnants of a wooden village from 1000 BC.

Located at Via Ercole Cecchi 20 in Scarlino, visitors can explore the castle grounds while the Territorial Archive Centre displays artifacts from excavations.

The fortress holds an annual medieval festival on August 19th, featuring races and archery contests commemorating the end of an 1855 epidemic.
