Monte Santo, Mountain summit in Province of Sassari, Italy.
Monte Santo is a mountain summit reaching about 733 meters, featuring a distinctive mesa formation in the Logudoro region of northern Sardinia. The plateau spans multiple municipalities including Siligo, Ardara, Bonnanaro, and Mores, with various access points distributed across the territory.
The territory was granted to the Abbey of Montecassino in the 11th century through a donation by Barisone I of Torres. This transfer marked the beginning of monastic influence over the mountain and surrounding lands.
The Church of Saints Elijah and Enoch stands on the summit plateau, reflecting the spiritual importance this location held for the region. Benedictine monks shaped the site by establishing a monastery and modifying the church over time.
The mountain can be approached from multiple directions, each offering different paths through the surrounding landscape. Visitors should prepare for windy conditions on the plateau and wear proper footwear suitable for uneven terrain.
The mountain forms part of the Pelau chain and creates natural vantage points offering expansive views of the Sardinian landscape. Its location at the intersection of several municipalities made it an important landmark in the early medieval region.
