Rokugo Bridge, Road bridge in Kawasaki, Japan
Rokugo Bridge spans the Tama River and connects Ota Ward in Tokyo with Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture across approximately 440 m. The structure features three traffic lanes in each direction plus pedestrian walkways and carries National Route 15.
A wooden bridge was first built here in 1600 under orders from Tokugawa Ieyasu to provide a crossing on the Tokaido Road. The present steel structure replaced earlier incarnations and has served as this vital transportation link for decades.
The bridge marks an important checkpoint during the annual Tokyo-Hakone Round-Trip College Ekiden Race, forming a boundary between Tokyo and Kanagawa. Runners and spectators use this spot as a symbolic crossing point between the two prefectures.
The location is easily reached by car or bus via National Route 15, and pedestrians can use the marked walkways. Visitors should know that daytime traffic is heaviest and the area becomes crowded during the annual ekiden race event.
A memorial plaque stands in the nearby Miyamoto-dai Green Space honoring 18 workers affected during the 1984 bridge demolition accident. This quiet monument reflects the human cost of rebuilding this transportation corridor.
