Ansitz Kreit, Estate and cultural heritage monument in St. Michael, Eppan an der Weinstraße, Italy
Ansitz Kreit is an estate located in St. Michael near Eppan an der Weinstraße, featuring a main residential building with two corner towers and a loggia displaying double-arched windows. The complex includes a grand staircase and several secondary structures that reflect the typical South Tyrolean manor-house layout.
The estate was constructed in 1596 by farmer Elias Leys, transforming a medieval wine farm into a manor house, and later passed to the noble Zeffer family. The Raifer family acquired it in the late 1800s and has shaped its character since then.
The chapel on the estate is dedicated to Saint Anthony and displays ceiling frescoes created in the 17th century by local craftsmen. Visitors can observe these religious artworks and explore the quiet prayer space that formed part of everyday life at the estate.
The property sits at Kreuzweg 15 in St. Michael and is easily reached via the local road, allowing visitors to admire the architecture from the outside. Since it is a private manor house, visitors should contact the office in advance to clarify access options and any restrictions.
The ceiling paintings in the chapel were created by Lukas Plazer in 1664 and showcase rare artistic techniques from that era. These fresco methods were not common in South Tyrolean art production and make the interior spaces a window into specialized craftsmanship.
