Kingoryū Shrine, Shinto shrine in Otaru, Japan

Kingoryū Shrine is a small Shinto shrine in Otaru, on the island of Hokkaido. It has simple wooden structures, a small torii gate at the entrance, stone lanterns, and paved pathways through its grounds.

The shrine was built by members of the local Otaru community as a place for worship and gathering. After 1946, when Japan reorganized the classification of shrines, it lost its official ranking along with many other smaller shrines across the country.

The shrine is close to the center of Otaru and easy to reach on foot. There is no entry fee, so visitors can stop by at any point during their time in the city.

The shrine is known in Otaru as a spot where couples come to propose marriage. Some visitors leave notes or small tokens on the grounds as a mark of their visit.
