妙安寺, 群馬県前橋市にある真宗大谷派の寺院
Myoan-ji is a temple belonging to the Nichiren school of Buddhism, located in the historic old town of Hiratsuka along the ancient Tokaido road. The grounds feature traditional Japanese buildings, stone lanterns, and small gardens arranged to create a calm space for prayer and reflection.
The temple was founded around 1648 in the early Edo period by a woman named Myoan, who received a statue of the goddess Kishimojin from a noblewoman. This founding linked the site to a continuous tradition of Nichiren Buddhism spanning more than 350 years of worship in the region.
The temple centers on the goddess Kishimojin, worshipped here as a protector of children and families. Visitors notice locals quietly offering incense and ringing bells as part of their daily devotion at this sacred site.
Visitors can reach the temple easily by bus, getting off at Toyoda Michi stop for a short walk to the entrance. The grounds are typically open from around 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, though special events or ceremonies may alter these hours.
The temple is part of the Shichifukujin Seven Lucky Gods pilgrimage circuit of Shonan Hiratsuka and hosts a shrine dedicated to Daikoku, the god of wealth. Every November a festival brings together small Daikoku statues, and people come to pray for prosperity and a clean year ahead.
