Miyashita Park, Urban park in Shibuya, Japan
Miyashita Park stretches 330 meters between Shibuya and Harajuku stations, combining shops, sports facilities, and green spaces across multiple levels. The site uses vertical layering with rooftops and terraces to stack different functions on top of one another.
The park originated in 1953 on former Miyashita-cho grounds near a royal residence. It underwent major redesigns in 1966 and again in 2020.
The park hosts zones dedicated to skateboarding and beach sports where you can watch people engage in recreational activities throughout the day. These areas reflect how modern Japanese cities create space for diverse leisure pursuits.
The park is located three minutes from Shibuya Station's Hachiko Exit and opens daily from 8:00 to 23:00. Bicycle parking is available on-site, and the grounds are easily walkable.
The site integrates a 1,000-square-meter grass area and beach volleyball courts, with bouldering walls mounted 17 meters above ground level. This elevated positioning enables unusual sports opportunities in the middle of a densely built city.
