Bori-am‎

Bori-am is a Buddhist temple built on steep rocky cliffs overlooking the sea on Geumsan Mountain. Wooden structures are linked by narrow staircases and arranged across the hillside to create multiple halls with sweeping views in all directions.

The temple was founded in 683 and was originally called Bogwangsa before receiving its current name during the Joseon Dynasty. These changes reflect how the site evolved in importance and purpose across different historical periods.

The temple holds deep meaning for worshippers who come to honor the sea goddess through offerings and prayers at the clifftop shrine. The location itself expresses a spiritual connection to the ocean that shapes how people experience and use this sacred space.

The temple is accessible by private vehicle or shuttle bus from Bokgok Parking Lot 1, making arrival convenient. Wear sturdy shoes and allow extra time for the steep stairs, as the mountain location means much of the visit involves climbing.
