Vëlodukt, Bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg
The Vëlodukt spans 1200 meters across the urban landscape, connecting Esch-sur-Alzette and Belval at a height of 7.5 meters above railway tracks.
Construction of this substantial infrastructure project started in June 2021, leading to its official opening ceremony on December 23, 2022.
The bridge represents Luxembourg's commitment to sustainable transportation, forming part of the nation's expanding 950-kilometer cycling network initiative.
The structure features multiple access points with ramps, stairs, and elevators, accommodating both cyclists and pedestrians with varying mobility requirements.
Steel pylons supporting the bridge were designed to resemble tree trunks, incorporating 500 steel piles throughout the structure's length.
