Oliņkalns, Ancient hillfort in Klintaine Parish, Latvia.
Oliņkalns is an archaeological site on an island within the Pļaviņas hydroelectric plant reservoir, rising about 20 meters above the water surface. The location features old fortifications and natural dolomite cliffs that shape the landscape of the reservoir.
The site was an important location in the medieval defensive landscape of the region and shows traces of settlements and fortifications from that period. Excavations have uncovered evidence connecting it to early castle structures in the area.
The name reflects the identity of this place in the local landscape and carries meaning in Latvian heritage. People from the region recognize it as a site connected to their past.
The site is visible from the A6 Rīga-Daugavpils highway and is located opposite the Stukmaņi settlement. From the road, you can clearly see the remains of the fortifications and the dolomite cliffs.
A memorial stone installed by mountain climbers in 1998 marks this archaeological place and reminds visitors that it now sits far from its original shoreline. The creation of the reservoir fundamentally changed how the site relates to the surrounding landscape.
