Water Tower of Chișinău
Water Tower of Chișinău, Water tower and museum in Chișinău, Moldova.
The Water Tower of Chișinău is a structure built in the late 1800s with walls made from local stone and brick arranged in rows, containing a spiral staircase inside. The building has multiple levels with exhibition areas and an elevator for access throughout its height.
The tower was built in the late 1800s following Alexander Bernadazzi's design and supplied water to the city center for decades. After it stopped operating as a water system, the structure was transformed into a museum.
The building now serves as the Chișinău City Museum, where visitors can walk through collections spanning different periods of local history. The exhibition spaces display how the city evolved through artifacts and contemporary art displays.
The tower is located near the city center and features an elevator for visitors to reach all levels without climbing stairs. The exhibition spaces spread across different heights allow you to explore at your own pace.
The walls of the tower narrow significantly toward the top, measuring 2 meters thick at the foundation but only 50 centimeters at the peak. This engineering approach from the 1800s demonstrates how builders calculated weight distribution carefully.
