EWI Gebouw, TU Delft, Municipal monument at TU Delft campus, Netherlands.
The EWI Gebouw is a modernist educational facility on the TU Delft campus featuring a distinctive double glass facade and standing approximately 90 meters tall. The structure spans 235 meters in length and is visually defined by its distinctive colored exterior design.
The building was designed by architect Geert Drexhage in 1966 as part of the Technical University Delft's expansion during that era. It represents the educational standards of the 1960s and remains a testament to the institution's academic growth at that time.
This building houses the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science and serves as a central hub for learning and collaboration at TU Delft. Students use its spaces daily for lectures, group projects, and academic gatherings.
The building is easily accessible from outside and navigation is simplified by its clear structure and signage. Visitors should note that this is an active teaching and working campus, so standard operating hours for educational facilities apply.
The red and blue coloring of the facade was selected by artist Henny Bal and carries an interesting backstory. The original architect Drexhage experienced color blindness, which made artistic input essential for the final visual design.
