Mosae Forum, Modern architectural complex in Boschstraatkwartier, Netherlands
Mosae Forum is a modern architectural complex in Maastricht's Boschstraatkwartier district, built with two connected sections and defined by large glass surfaces and concrete elements. An aerial bridge joins the sections and provides views of the Maas River from a panoramic terrace.
The project began in 2003 as part of a comprehensive urban renewal plan aimed at strengthening the link between Maastricht's city center and the Maas River. This development reshaped how the city connects with its waterfront.
The building honours the former city hall by incorporating its furniture, including wooden benches and tables designed by Dom Hans van der Laan, into its spaces. This integration creates a dialogue between modern design and the city's past.
The complex houses numerous workstations for municipal staff as well as retail spaces and dining establishments spread throughout its levels. An underground parking area makes access straightforward for visitors.
The complex blends two distinct architectural approaches: the northern section displays organic, curved forms designed by Jo Coenen, while the southern part features clear geometric glass designs by Bruno Albert. This contrast makes it an interesting study in contemporary design languages.
