Water tower Stadskanaal

The brick tower rises 43 meters high and features a concrete reservoir holding 900 cubic meters of water at its upper section.

Built in 1935 by architect H.F. Mertens for the Groningen Water Company, this tower maintained water pressure across the Stadskanaal region until 1987.

The structure exemplifies Business Expressionist architecture through its round shaft, brick buttresses, and decorative window arrangements characteristic of 1930s Dutch design.

Located on Ceresstraat, the tower contains 208 steps leading to an observation point offering views toward Groningen city on clear days.

The entrance pathway includes brick walls with pergolas, while the interior displays light yellow bricks and nine concrete columns supporting the water tank.
