Stadion Esserberg, Football stadium in Haren, Netherlands.
Stadion Esserberg is a football ground in Haren, in the northern Netherlands, built with an artificial grass pitch and covered stands running alongside it. Floodlights are installed around the perimeter, allowing the venue to host matches after dark.
The ground was designed in 1921 by Evert van Linge, a former Be Quick 1887 player, drawing on the Amsterdam School style of architecture. A fire in 1933 destroyed the original wooden stands, and van Linge rebuilt them in concrete with a noticeably different look.
The ground is home to Be Quick 1887, one of the oldest football clubs in the Netherlands. On match days, supporters fill the stands and the venue becomes a gathering point for the local community.
The stadium sits on Rijksstraatweg in Haren, just south of Groningen, and can be reached by car or public transport from the city center. It is worth checking ahead, as the ground is generally not open to visitors outside of match days or scheduled events.
When van Linge rebuilt the stands after the 1933 fire, he reportedly looked to celebrated European sports venues for inspiration, giving the new concrete tribune a character quite different from a typical Dutch club ground of that era. The result is still visible today in the shape of the main stand.
