Huize Schreurs, Renaissance house in Grote Kerkstraat, Venlo, Netherlands
Huize Schreurs is a brick Renaissance house on Grote Kerkstraat featuring a front wall decorated with two sculpted busts set in rounded frames and diamond and mask-shaped stone ornaments. The building contains a ground floor, upper loft space, and a small inner courtyard with double-wall brick construction.
The house was built in 1588 during the Renaissance period. The name Vogelsanck appeared in city records as early as 1492, showing the site had earlier significance before the current structure was constructed.
The front wall displays a coat of arms showing the alliance between the Vogelsanck and Boeener families, reflecting their ties to influential local families whose names are carved into the stone.
The house is located in central Venlo and easy to reach on foot. Visitors should note that this is a private residence and viewing is best done from the street and surroundings.
The back section of the house was once a bakery where bread was produced for the town. This combination of living space and working business was common for prosperous merchant and craftsman families of that time.
