Goirkese kerk, Catholic church in Goirke district, Tilburg, Netherlands
Goirkese Kerk is a Catholic church in the Goirke quarter featuring three naves under a saddle roof, with a west facade divided into three sections displaying pointed arch windows. Its interior is filled with nineteen stained glass windows and a neoclassical altar, while a wooden pulpit from the 1850s stands nearby.
Construction began in 1835 to replace an older stone barn church from 1725. Royal support from King Willem I played a key role in making the project possible.
The stained glass windows throughout the building reflect the skill of local craftspeople who created these colored works. They have shaped the interior light and religious experience for worshippers across generations.
The building is located at Goirkestraat 68 and is easy to reach from the city center. The layout includes distinct areas in the transepts that serve different purposes, making it easy to understand the church's organization.
The priest Peerke Donders, an important religious figure, celebrated his first mass here and is remembered through two dedicated windows. These windows stand as a quiet tribute to a clergyman who left a mark on local religious life.
