De Oude molen, Gristmill in Yerseke, Netherlands.
De Oude Molen is an octagonal windmill in Yerseke that features traditional wooden cladding and large wooden sails rotating around a central axis. The structure houses two pairs of millstones inside that show how grain was processed in earlier times.
The mill was built in 1815 and first served as a windpump before being converted into a gristmill in 1897. It operated until 1937, when grain grinding stopped.
The mill shows traditional Dutch techniques and was an important place for the community to process grain. It shows how people here once had their grain ground and what role such mills played in village life.
Visitors can tour inside the mill and watch volunteer millers perform demonstrations of how traditional grain processing works during scheduled times. The best time to visit is when these demonstrations happen so you can see the mill in operation.
In the 1960s, Dutch business owners tried to dismantle the entire mill and move it to Aruba to create a tourist attraction there. The ambitious plan did not work out completely, and the mill remained at its original location.
