Noordenveld, Stellingmill in Norg, Netherlands
Noordenveld is a stellingmill in Norg with a two-story wooden structure mounted on a three-story brick base. Inside are two pairs of millstones that were used to grind different types of grain for local needs.
The mill was built in 1878 for Willem Stevens and remained in family hands for several generations. In 1962 the Nijhof family took over and restored the building.
The mill shows how grain processing was done in this region using traditional Dutch methods that shaped daily life. Visitors can see the practical systems that millers developed to handle different types of grain and respond to local needs.
You can visit on Saturdays, though the mill alternates its opening schedule with the nearby De Hoop mill. It helps to check ahead to confirm which mill is open on your intended day.
The cast-iron windshaft dates to 1904 and was later modified through specialized boring to fit different sail types. This adaptation shows how millers adapted their equipment over time to meet changing needs.
