Rien Poortvliet Museum, Art museum in Korendijk, Netherlands
The Rien Poortvliet Museum displays original drawings, paintings, and illustrations created by the Dutch artist throughout his four-decade career. The collection is housed in a 19th-century farmhouse on Tiengemeten Island, near the harbor.
The museum was founded in 1992 at Middelharnis Town Hall and relocated to Tiengemeten Island in 2009. The move to the historic farmhouse reflected efforts to preserve the artist's work in a new location.
The collection features detailed nature illustrations and wildlife sketches created with careful attention to animal life. The gnome series became widely recognized through published books and remains a signature element of the artist's legacy.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and offers space to explore across multiple levels, including a special gnome area for children. An outdoor path on the grounds allows visitors to walk around the property and see different areas of the estate.
The museum features a personal film where the artist discusses his working methods and creative process in his own studio. These recordings give visitors a rare glimpse into the techniques and craftsmanship behind the displayed works.
