Hjorten Revy- og Varietéteater, Theatre building in Ila, Trondheim, Norway
The Hjorten Revy- og Varietéteater is a theatre building located at Ilevollen 15 in Ila, near the Britannia Hotel, with a main stage designed by architect Karl Norum. The venue was configured to host musicals, folk comedies, and classic dramas with a company of around 30 performers.
The theatre was founded in 1867 and operated until 1947. The building was demolished in 1961 to make way for a nursing home.
The theatre hosted international performers and brought European artists to Trondheim regularly. Fritz and Olga Topp traveled to major cities to book acts and expand the range of performances available to local audiences.
The building was situated in a central location near well-known hotels and was easily accessible. Visitors should check the exact address on Ilevollen and allow time to explore the surrounding neighbourhood.
The theatre's restaurant was named Olgas in honour of Olga Topp, who took over operations after her husband Fritz died in 1920 and upgraded the facilities significantly. Her leadership shaped the venue's character for decades to come.
