Vamma power station

Vamma is a hydroelectric facility on the Glomma river that converts water flow into electrical power through multiple turbines. The installation spans along the riverbank with various structures designed to harness and manage the energy from flowing water.

Work on the facility started in 1907 and the first turbines became operational in 1915. Over the following decades, additional turbines were installed to increase output and meet growing regional energy demands.

The site sits along an open river section with easy access from nearby roads and footpaths. Visitors can view the facility from external vantage points and observe how it integrates with the surrounding landscape.

The facility operates a mix of different turbine designs, including specialized Kaplan turbines that adapt to changing water levels. This variety allows efficient power generation across varying river conditions throughout the year.
