Vamma power station, Hydroelectric power station in Indre Østfold, Norway
The Vamma power station stands on the Glomma river, utilizing multiple Francis turbines and a Kaplan turbine to generate electrical power from water flow.
Construction began in 1907, with the first two turbines completed in 1915, followed by additional installations through 1944, reaching an initial capacity of 113 MW.
The station represents Norwegian industrial heritage through its architecture designed by Thorvald Astrup and its role in regional power generation development.
The facility generates approximately 1,275 gigawatt hours annually, supplying electricity to about 14 percent of Oslo's power consumption needs.
The 2019 expansion made Vamma the largest run-of-river hydroelectric plant in Norway, with twelve turbines and enhanced water throughput capacity.
