Nordkapphallen

Nordkapphallen is a structure on the North Cape plateau standing 307 meters above sea level, built into the mountain landscape facing the Barents Sea. The complex houses multiple functional areas including a restaurant, exhibition spaces, a chapel, and observation areas.

Construction of the building began in 1959 using stone from the plateau itself, then underwent major expansion in the 1980s to handle growing visitor numbers. This enlargement marked a turning point in developing the site as a modern destination.

The Children of the Earth project from 1989 displays seven monuments created by children from different countries, symbolizing global connection at this northern location. Visitors can discover these works around the plateau while experiencing the spirit of worldwide collaboration.

The site is accessible year-round, though opening hours shift with the seasons and Arctic light conditions. Visitors should wear warm clothing and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Beneath the main complex lies a grotto carved into the rock with a bar featuring windows cut into the stone walls. From this underground space, visitors can view the Arctic Ocean and, weather permitting, the midnight sun.
