Golden Gate, City gate in Gdańsk, Poland.
The stone and brick Golden Gate features three passages, eight allegorical statues, and two identical facades with diamond-point decorations and painted walls.
Constructed between 1612 and 1614 by architect Abraham van den Blocke, this Mannerist structure replaced a medieval fortification at the entrance of Long Street.
The eight sculptures on the gate represent civic virtues: Peace, Liberty, Fortune, Fame, Concordia, Justice, Piety, and Prudence, reflecting citizens' aspirations.
The Golden Gate marks the beginning of the Royal Route, connecting to Long Street and leading visitors through the historical center of Gdańsk.
Latin inscriptions on the eastern frieze state 'Small states grow through harmony, great ones fall through discord' while western side displays a Psalm verse.
