Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Miechów

The Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Miechów is a three-nave Gothic structure topped with a tower and dome-shaped helmet crowned by a gilded double-armed cross. Beneath the collegiate church lie crypts that functioned as burial chambers for the religious community.

The original building burned down in 1379, prompting construction of a Gothic structure between 1394 and 1410. The church underwent later renovation in late Baroque style, which significantly altered its appearance.

The church served as a pilgrimage destination because it houses a replica of Christ's tomb, built around 1530 to match the original site in Jerusalem. This allowed believers who could not travel far to pray at a sacred location without leaving their region.

The basilica is accessible to visitors and sits in the town center, making it easy to locate. It is best visited during regular opening hours or when services are taking place.

The crypts beneath the church hold the burial chambers of Samuel Nakielski and Bishop Tomasz Nowiński, the last general provost of the congregation. These resting places reflect the significance of the religious community that once governed the complex.
